Bitcoin: Watch the Calendar or the Price?
此文章只提供英文版

Bitcoin is often described as a four-year cycle: a halving, a rally, a peak, then a bear market. It is a simple pattern that makes people expect history to repeat. But the rule written into Bitcoin's code is that new coin rewards halve roughly every four years. Prices have no fixed timetable. The halving slows the supply of new coins, but the market still needs buyers. The four-year cycle provides a useful framework, while the price itself helps us judge whether the market is getting stronger.
Purple Line - 50W Moving Average
The 50-week simple moving average, or 50W SMA, is one indicator worth watching. It takes the average of the past 50 weekly closing prices and helps show the trend behind daily price swings. In 2015, 2019 and 2023, Bitcoin moved back above this line after its bear-market low and later advanced towards another bull phase. A return above the average after a long downturn therefore gives the market a reason to look again. The signal carries more weight when the price continues to hold above it in the following weeks.
The 2020 COVID crash deserves separate consideration. The sudden shock pushed Bitcoin back below the average and interrupted its recovery. The price later recovered and entered a strong bull market. Looking at the wider cycle, there is a case for treating this as an interruption caused by an outside event. But the losses at the time were still real. Even when the longer-term direction turns out to be right, the journey can include sharp falls. Moving above the 50-week line does not mean the price will only go up from there.
After a prolonged downturn, a return above the 50-week average becomes more encouraging if buyers step in during pullbacks and the price forms higher lows. History gives reasons for optimism, although there are only a limited number of complete cycles to compare. If the price quickly falls below the line again, the outlook needs another look. The four-year cycle provides context; the price provides evidence. A bull market may begin while most people are still doubtful. Holding above the 50-week line would give that view stronger support. This is market commentary, not financial advice.
